[Hulda]: "I have been married to Don for 43 years and it has been a joy. When we got married in Nova Scotia, there were three weddings in that small community that day. 5 years later, we were the only couple that were still married. I’m so proud that we never bailed, it’s been a great life.

My husband and I describe ourselves as Christians; we believe that your lives are held in the palms of God’s hands. Things are going to happen, but how can I complain? There was a time in my life where I had rapid onset of rheumatoid arthritis. I couldn’t close my hands and I was in a lot of pain. I never said I didn’t deserve this because I was in a really wonderful relationship with my husband, I was still enjoying myself. I was in pain, but I still had a lot of joy in my life."

[Don]: "Hulda and I worked together in private practice for 15 years before I joined the military as a dentist. She switched her career path from a librarian to a dental hygienist. We had patients who had come to us for years and years and didn’t realize we were married just because we’ve been professional with what we’ve been doing.

Retirement keeps us busy. Hulda and I are always doing things. We’re always active, we go out a lot. We have a lot of similar interests; reading, pickleball, crossword puzzles. We spend a lot of time together and we’re enjoying each day as it comes."
